Is there a benefit for cardio care in consuming ALA with DHA and EPA?

Studies from the Harvard School of Public Health have shown that the beneficial effects of dietary ALA in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease-related mortality appears to be related to the daily dietary intake of DHA plus EPA. For individuals consuming less than 100 mg of DHA/EPA (combined) per day, increasing the intake of ALA appears to offer significant protection against cardiac mortality. For those consuming more than 100 mg of DHA/EPA (combined) per day, increasing the dietary intake of ALA did not appear to provide any significant protection against cardiac mortality. It is noteworthy that the average North American intake of DHA/EPA (combined) is approximately 120-150 mg/day; thus, approximately one-third of North American adults may be consuming less than 100 mg of DHA plus EPA per day.
