If I am taking DHA/EPA supplements, does the bioavailabilty differ according to the time of day when I take these?
In our research at the University of Guelph, we found that the bioavailability of a fixed dose of DHA/EPA and its blood triglyceride-lowering effect was not different when the daily supplementation was taken at different mealtimes (that is, taken just before, during, or after the meal). There is some evidence in the literature that the bioavailability of supplemental DHA/EPA is somewhat lower if taken on an empty stomach in the morning rather than concomitant with a meal.
