How much omega-3 from food and/or supplements in too much?

The Food and Drug Administration in the United States (FDA) recommends that consumers not ingest more than 3000 mg of DHA/EPA per day with no more than 2000 mg of the total coming from dietary supplementation. The difference (1000 mg/day) could come from food sources (including fish/seafood and functional foods enriched with DHA/EPA). These FDA guidelines apply to the general population and cannot be universally applied to 100% of all individuals in the population (such as patients on medicinal blood thinners, others).
