Does this omega-3 vitamin supplement help hair loss?
Dear MB,
Although there has been one report that DHA omega-3 may possibly provide some protection from chemotherapy-induced hair loss (alopecia), such a potential application requires much more extensive research before this can ever be considered as clinically validated. There have been no controlled clinical trials yet published in peer-reviewed journals which have evaluated the potential for omega-3 supplementation to help in the prevention or retardation of hair loss (alopecia). Just as an aside, it is noted that omega-3 fatty acid is not considered to be a vitamin as per nutritional/nutrient and terminology. Omega-3 is a fatty acid molecule which represents part of the lipids (various fats) that we consume each day in our diet as food or via supplementation.
