Are there any differences in the bioavailability and efficacy of triglyceride (TG) vs. ethyl ester (EE) forms of DHA/EPA?
Assuming that the omega-3 supplement is taken at or close to mealtime, most comparative studies have shown either minimal or no significant differences in the bioavailability of the TG vs. EE forms. The TG form, whether an omega-3 concentrate or not, often carries the term ‘natural’ in ads and/or labelling. In contrast to the TG form, the EE form is not naturally present in fish products and other foods unless the EE form has been added as a nutraceutical ingredient.
